Aluminum Conductors (AC) are widely used in overhead power transmission and distribution systems due to their high electrical conductivity, low weight, and low cost. They are typically made up of multiple strands of aluminum wire twisted together to form a single conductor.

Here are some technical specifications of Aluminum Conductors:

§  Material: The conductor shall be made of high-purity aluminum, and shall conform to ASTM B230, B231, and B232.

§  Stranding: The conductor shall be composed of concentric layers of wires, with each layer twisted in the opposite direction to the one beneath it. The stranding shall be uniform and free from any defects that could cause damage to the wires during installation or operation.

§  Diameter: The conductor diameter shall be determined by the number of wires and the wire diameter, and shall be within the range specified in the relevant standards.

§  Cross-sectional area: The cross-sectional area of the conductor shall be calculated based on the number and size of the wires, and shall be within the range specified in the relevant standards.

§  Electrical properties: The conductor shall have a high electrical conductivity, with a minimum conductivity of 61.2% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard). The conductor resistance shall not exceed the maximum value specified in the relevant standards.

§  Mechanical properties: The conductor shall be able to withstand the stresses and strains encountered during installation and operation without damage or deformation. It shall have a minimum breaking strength of 9.5 kN (kiloneutons) and a minimum elongation of 8%.

In summary, Aluminum Conductors are widely used in overhead power transmission and distribution systems due to their high electrical conductivity, low weight, and low cost. They are typically made up of multiple strands of aluminum wire twisted together to form a single conductor, and must meet certain technical specifications in terms of material, stranding, diameter, cross-sectional area, electrical and mechanical properties, coatings, and packaging.
